Who are F.I.R.S.T Call?

The ESG appointed  FIRST Call as our independent residents' advisers for Stage 3 of the Housing Choices Programme.

We chose them after interviewing a total of 3 groups, because we felt they had the best range of expertise available to them. Mike Tilcock joined them after taking a prominent part in the transfer of his own estate in Lambeth, and so he has experience of negotiating with a local authority as a resident, as well as being a housing expert. He is also a local councillor, and a lay preacher.  

Role of the Independent Residents'Advisor.

The role of the Independent Advisor is varied and includes:

• Providing clear impartial advice to tenants and leaseholders.
• Guiding them through the Stock Transfer process
• Helping them to understand the various associated documents such as the Offer Document, Tenancy Agreement and THCH policy documents
• Addressing the issues of future governance and resident involvement strategies.
• Providing briefing notes and information notes where appropriate and training/information sessions if required.
• Identifying residents'concerns, raising them with the Council and/or THCH and achieving mutually agreeable solutions.
• Assisting residents with negotiations in a transparent process that results in an Offer Document that encompasses residents' aspirations for Mansford Estate, so that they can make an informed decision on the future of their estate.
• Engaging with residents through regular drop-in surgeries and outreach, to enable as many people as possible to be fully aware of what is happening. We will provide regular updates regarding the number of people with whom we have made contact and the issues they have raised.

Input is not confined to ESG meetings. Mike organises an outreach programme, and he and the rest of the orgainisation can be contacted in confidence by any resident. 

Proposed Outreach Programme for Mansford Estate.

First Call staff will be out and about on Mansford Estate starting on Fridays commencing Ist October. We will be talking to residents, handing out fiiers and asking tenants about their priorities and aspirations. We will also ask leaseholders about any concerns they may have.

In tandem with this we propose holding drop-in sessions at the Pensioners Clubroom in Nelson Gardens at times convenient for residents.

As the programme progresses they will be offering home visits wherever requested.
