Charles Dickens House

For such a monumental building, this tower block has a cramped and uninspiring space around it. The proposal aims to transform this space, introducing a new pedestrian square with informal sculptural seating and feature lighting to lift the impact of grey concrete.

A new glazed entrance lobby would allow views from the street to the lifts removing hidden areas and therefore improving security. Strategic planting would soften the area and make it more attractive. The number of routes around the block would be rationalized to improve security and to provide a clear route through to Bethnal Green Road.
