The council has been able to apply for special government funds to regenerate some of our poorest areas. The rules on how to get such money are always set by the government when invitations to bid are sought. These can change from year to year.
In most cases a successful bid needs to demonstrate that the use of government money will attract other resources from the council's partners, such as registered social landlords and local businesses. Once government money has been won on the basis of a competitive bid for a particular area it cannot be spent elsewhere in the borough.
